My recent journey to Addo NP was one of those classic South African road trips that blend stunning landscapes, good food, and unforgettable wildlife moments. Starting from Cape Town, we made our way along the N2 highway, heading east towards adventure.
Our first stop was at Gabriëlskloof in Botriver, right along the N2 – the perfect place for a relaxed wine tasting and lunch before continuing the journey. The N2 then led us through the beautiful coastal region towards Wilderness, just in time to watch the sun set over the beach.
We spent the night in Knysna at the Protea Hotel – perfectly located right next to the promenade, with plenty of great dinner spots by the water. The next morning, we explored Knysna on foot, coffee in hand, taking in the calm atmosphere and views over the lagoon before hitting the road again.
Our next destination was Addo, where we stayed at AfriCamps – and what a place! Only 15 minutes from the Addo National Park gate, it offered everything you could wish for: peace, nature, and that wonderful feeling of being completely off the grid. Each tent came with its own wood-fired hot tub, an outdoor braai area, and a cozy indoor fireplace – perfect for quiet evenings under the stars.
We spent three days and two nights exploring Addo Elephant National Park, watching elephants, zebras, and countless other animals in their natural habitat. It’s an experience that never fails to remind you how magical South Africa truly is.
After a few unforgettable days in the wild, we slowly made our way back along the coast, stopping once more in Hermanus before taking the scenic coastal road back to Cape Town – past Betty’s Bay and other beautiful beaches. Full of new impressions, a bit of dust on our shoes, and a lot of gratitude for this beautiful country we get to explore.
